New media artists Reilly Donovan and Joseph Gray (http://glymmer.net) created an interactive projection mapped digital installation for the interior of the Blockhaus structure in the VIP lounge designed by Olson Kundig. The projections are generated from custom code and change slowly over time using algorithms and programmatically driven low frequency oscillators. People entering the space are tracked using depth cameras adding a stochastic element to the work by subtly modifying the animations with visitors movements. The imagery itself is mapped closely to the blocks that make up the structure itself, essentially transforming the interactive light field into an architectural surface material. This work is made possible via the artist’s collaboration with Olson Kundig and developed during an artist-in-residency at Cornish College of the Arts new Institute of Emergent Technology + Intermedia.
